Derek Williams is a thoughtful and experienced litigator and legal advisor, who understands how to advance a client's objectives and goals through litigation. He has helped clients to avoid litigation when advantageous and to pursue it when necessary. Over the years, Mr. Williams has advised clients in the music, film, fashion, television, toy, cosmetics, video gaming, finance, food, and pharmaceutical industries.

He has represented corporate and individual clients, including major and independent record labels, music publishers, award-winning singers and songwriters, and luxury goods companies, in matters concerning alleged copyright and trademark infringement, counterfeiting, false advertising, libel, employment discrimination, misappropriation of publicity rights, computer hacking, and contractual disputes.

Super Lawyers Magazine recently selected Mr. Williams as a New York Metro Rising Star – an honor received by no more than 2.5% of attorneys in New York – for his work as an intellectual property litigator.

Before joining Jonathan D. Davis, P.C., Mr. Williams worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Deborah A. Batts, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York. After his clerkship, he joined the Litigation Department at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, where he represented clients in civil and criminal matters. He served on Patterson Belknap's Hiring and Diversity Committees for multiple years.

Mr. Williams is a published documentary photographer and an accomplished tennis player, who played on the Northwestern University tennis team.
